Mets reach two-year deal with right-hander Bartolo Colon

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – The New York Mets are showing some life.

A day after introducing new outfielder Curtis Granderson and his four-year, $60 million contract, the Mets came to terms with veteran starter Bartolo Colon on a two-year, $20 million deal that should at least tide them over while young ace Matt Harvey recovers from elbow reconstruction surgery. They also signed outfielder Chris Young at $7.25 million for a year.

Upon his introduction, Granderson observed, "A lot of people I've met in New York have always said that true New Yorkers are Mets fans. So I'm excited to get a chance to see them all out there."

There's now certainly more of the Mets to like.

Colon has a roundish body, will be 41 in May and has a PED history. Still, he is a fiendish strike-thrower who won 18 games and had a 2.65 ERA in 30 starts for the Oakland A's last season. He'll join a rotation with Jonathan Niese, Dillon Gee and Zack Wheeler.

The Mets appeared to separate themselves in the market by going to a second year.

Fox Sports was the first to report the agreement.
